Hi fam!
I hope everyone is well during this crazy time. Now more than ever, I am focusing on staying connected to the community. It is easy to lose motivation and inspiration in this quarantine, so I wanted to share with all of you what I have been doing in hopes that it can provide you with some joy!
Here are some of my tips for crushing the quarantine and holding onto your sanity:
1. Keep a schedule
I am someone who THRIVES on routine. I love schedules and I love routine, so I am making this a priority in the coming weeks. Set your alarm and wake up at your usual time Monday through Friday. DO NOT let your body think it’s the weekend. How you start your day will affect your mindset for the rest of the day!
2. Put on regular clothes
When you wake and get moving, put on regular clothes. You don’t have to dress up to the 9’s, but for the love of God, do not wear the clothes that you sleep in. Don’t let yourself feel too comfortable and cozy. There needs to be a clear shift in your energy when you start work, which starts from how you feel. There will be plenty of time for the PJs!
3. Play upbeat music
Things might be quiet around your house since you aren’t in an office or you aren’t around your co-workers. Play some quiet upbeat music in the background to help lift your mood. I am a true believer that with the right energy, you can accomplish/get through anything. Music creates energy, so pick your playlist wisely. (The Weeknd’s new album is fire)
4. Work Station
If you can, avoid sitting on the couch while you work from home. Again, don’t allow yourself to get too comfortable. Make sure you are taking breaks. At least every hour, get up and get your blood flowing! Get water, step outside, stretch!
5. Sweat
This one is tricky. I am someone who NEEDS to workout in groups. I need big energy and I need the accountability from other people. This next month is a challenge for all of us, but I promise you – we can do it. Sweating every single day will work miracles for your mind. Try to put it into your schedule, just like you would normally treat a class. Instead of, “I need to work out tonight” start saying, “On Monday, I am working out at 5:30pm.”
6. Give yourself some slack
This is a scary and confusing time for everyone. It’s okay to feel angry/sad/frustrated/lost. Give yourself permission to miss a workout. Give yourself permission to relax and reset.
With confusion and fear swirling around, I am finding a sense of camaraderie that brings me joy. We are all in this together and we will come out on the other side more resilient and stronger than before. Feel free to share your tips for what you have been doing to stay strong! Talk to you all soon.
